Trinidad Pastelle Pie Recipe
A delicious and unique Caribbean dish made with ground beef, vegetables, and Caribbean spices, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp allspice
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ cup pimento-stuffed olives, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8-10 banana leaves or parchment paper
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté onion, garlic, and bell pepper until soft.
- Add tomato, tomato paste, thyme, allspice, and nutmeg to the skillet and cook for a few more minutes.
- Add cooked beef and olives to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cut banana leaves into squares, remove hard stem in the center, or use parchment paper.
- Place a heaping tablespoon of beef mixture onto each square of banana leaf or parchment paper. Fold to create a package.
- Place the packages in a steamer basket and steam for 45-60 minutes.
- Remove packages from the steamer basket using tongs or a spatula. Serve hot.
