The Graceful Baker’s Royal Icing Recipe
This smooth and glossy royal icing is perfect for decorating cakes, cookies, and other baked goods. It's easy to work with and produces a professional-quality finish.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- electric hand mixer or stand mixer
- piping bag or spoon
Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites, room temperature
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg whites until they become frothy.
- Gradually add in the sifted powdered sugar, mixing with a hand mixer on low speed until fully combined.
- Increase the speed to medium and beat until the mixture becomes glossy and forms stiff peaks.
- Add in the lemon juice and beat for an additional 30 seconds.
- Your royal icing is now ready to use! Transfer it to a piping bag or use a spoon to apply it to your baked goods.

- Make sure to use room-temperature egg whites for the best consistency.
- Sift your powdered sugar before mixing to avoid lumps in the icing.
