Notes
Recipe Notes:
- Be sure to use buttermilk in this recipe, as it provides the acid needed to activate the bicarbonate of soda and help the bread rise.
- Don’t overwork the dough when kneading it, as this can make the bread tough.
- Make sure to cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf before baking, as this helps the bread to cook evenly and rise properly.
- For an extra crispy crust, brush the loaf with a mixture of milk and beaten egg before baking.
- Try adding things like cheese, herbs, or dried fruit to the dough to give it extra flavor and texture.
