Notes
Recipe Notes:
- If you want to prepare this dish ahead of time, you can assemble it up to step 7 and then cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. When you’re ready to bake it, remove the plastic wrap and bake as directed.
- Be careful not to overcook the pasta or the cheese sauce. Overcooked pasta can become mushy, and overcooked cheese sauce can become gritty or separate.
- Keep an eye on the breadcrumbs during baking to prevent them from burning. If they start to get too dark, you can cover the dish with foil to prevent further browning.
- Use a good quality baking dish to evenly cook and brown the macaroni and cheese.
- Don’t forget to add enough salt to enhance the flavors.
- Let the macaroni and cheese cool and rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
