Labor Cake
A rich and spicy chocolate cake believed to help induce labor in pregnant women.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Cake pan (9×13-inch)
- Oven
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1½ cups warm water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, alternating with the warm water.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.

- Labor Cake can also be made into cupcakes by pouring the batter into lined muffin tins and baking for 20-25 minutes.
- If you’re pregnant, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor or midwife before trying any home remedies to induce labor.
