Notes
Recipe Notes:
- Fresh huckleberries are recommended for the best flavor and texture, but frozen huckleberries can be used as well. Thaw them and gently pat them dry before incorporating them into the dough.
- For added sweetness, sprinkle a small amount of sugar on top of each cookie dough portion before baking.
- Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container to maintain their freshness for up to 3-4 days.
- This recipe can be easily doubled if you want to make a larger batch of huckleberry cookies.
- Chilling the cookie dough for 30 minutes in the refrigerator before baking helps the cookies hold their shape and intensifies the flavors.
- Experiment with adding a touch of cinnamon or lemon zest to the dough for a flavor variation.
- If you don’t have huckleberries, you can try using other similar berries like blueberries or raspberries for a similar fruity twist. Adjust the sweetness accordingly.
- These huckleberry cookies also make wonderful gifts. Package them in decorative boxes or jars for a thoughtful homemade present.
