Grace’s Oat Bread Recipe
A wholesome and delicious oat bread recipe that is perfect for breakfast or a snack. This bread is made with oats, flour, and other simple ingredients, and is quick and easy to make.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- loaf pan
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Whisk
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1½ cups buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Recipe Notes:
- You can use quick oats instead of rolled oats if you prefer.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use 1 1/2 cups of milk mixed with 1 1/2 tablespoons of white vinegar.
- For a sweeter bread, you can add 1/4 cup of sugar to the batter.
- Serve the bread warm with butter or jam for a comforting breakfast or snack.
- You can also slice the bread and freeze it for later. Just pop a slice in the toaster when you’re ready to eat it.
