Grace’s Oat Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup melted butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together the oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Recipe Notes:
  • You can use quick oats instead of rolled oats if you prefer.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use 1 1/2 cups of milk mixed with 1 1/2 tablespoons of white vinegar.
  • For a sweeter bread, you can add 1/4 cup of sugar to the batter.
Special Tips:
  • Serve the bread warm with butter or jam for a comforting breakfast or snack.
  • You can also slice the bread and freeze it for later. Just pop a slice in the toaster when you’re ready to eat it.
