Gordon Ramsay’s Chicken Mozzarella Recipe
This mouthwatering Italian-inspired dish combines tender chicken breasts with tangy tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.
Equipment
- cast iron skillet
- oven-safe dish
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
- ¼ cup dry white wine
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
- ¼ tsp dried oregano
- ¼ tsp dried basil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- slices fresh mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
- Olive oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and add enough olive oil to coat the bottom of the skillet.
- Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the diced tomatoes, white wine, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, oregano, and basil to the same skillet.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Place the chicken breasts back in the skillet, on top of the tomato sauce.
- Top each chicken breast with a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot.

Recipe Notes:
- You can use bone-in chicken instead of boneless chicken, but the cooking time will be longer.
- You can use canned tomato sauce instead of diced tomatoes, but diced tomatoes with their juices provide more flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness for even cooking.
- Use a cast-iron skillet to sear the chicken for a nice crust.
- Use fresh herbs, such as basil, oregano, or thyme, for the best flavor.
