Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract.
  • Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the surface with a spatula.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan and transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
